Recognizing that an emotional wound exists is the first step to dealing
with it effectively. This process involves acknowledging the full weight of
your feelings. Reflect on the experiences, people, or actions that caused you
hurt. Events, situations and response patterns in our childhood were good then,
but prevents us from being happy and resilient in the present.
We can run from our feelings – but what we run from persues us and what we face
is what transforms us!

Self-Reflection Tip: Write down the memory or the feelings that resurface most often,
without judgment. Journaling is a safe space to capture and explore what hurts
without pressure or expectation.

2. Practice
Self-Compassion

Many of us are quick to offer compassion to others
yet find it difficult to extend that same kindness to ourselves. Often,
emotional wounds deepen when we allow feelings of guilt, shame, or regret to
multiply. Self-compassion means viewing your pain with the same understanding
and tenderness you would give to a friend.

How to Begin: Try
practicing a self-compassion meditation. Close your eyes and, as you breathe
deeply, silently repeat phrases such as, “May I be kind to myself in this
moment,” or “I am worthy of healing and understanding.” Over time, these
affirmations can reshape how you see your past and, ultimately, yourself.

3. Many believe it means
condoning hurtful actions, but real forgiveness is about releasing the grip
past pain has on your life. Forgiveness does not require forgetting, nor does
it erase what happened. Instead, it’s a personal decision to let go of
resentment, which can feel heavy and all-consuming. If we had complicated relationships with
people and they die, we struggle with grief because the struggle makes the
attachment more intense.
Our mind is predictable and protective in order to keep us safe. The data in the past stored in our minds
causes us to use corrupted data in the present.
If our mind is clogged with the past, we tend to put people in roles
they did not audition for and prevent ourselves from experiencing our feelings
mindfully in the present.

Forgiveness in Practice: Start with small steps. This reframing allows you to place the
experience in a positive context.

Seeking Purpose Exercise: Ask yourself, “What did this experience teach
me about my values, boundaries, or strengths?” Whether it’s resilience,
empathy, or a deeper understanding of your needs, these lessons can help you
feel empowered rather than held back by your wounds.

5. Expressing
your experiences aloud, whether in a group or one-on-one, often makes the pain
feel less overwhelming and fosters a sense of connection that reminds you
you’re not alone.

6. By committing to growth, you accept that healing is a
process and that it’s okay if your progress feels gradual or imperfect. Growth
means allowing yourself to evolve without needing to have all the answers. When you are grieving, healing will happen
reactive and reveal your wounds.
Why? Old wounds come up under
stressful situations and grief is stressful.
You will also attract healthier people when you are healing from old
needs. Therefore, allow yourself to
complain, explain yourself and explore.

Personal Growth Exercise: Set small, meaningful goals that align with your values.
