Traumatic loss
Traumatic loss happens when life changes suddenly in a way that leaves you feeling shocked, helpless, or overwhelmed. For example, losing a loved one unexpectedly, or surviving a serious accident that leaves you paralysed and reliant on a wheelchair for the rest of your life, can trigger intense grief alongside fear, anger, or guilt. Not all loss is traumatic, but all trauma includes loss and grief — because even when we survive, we are mourning what has been taken from us. In counselling, you can safely explore these emotions, begin to restore a sense of safety, and gradually find meaning, connection, and hope again in a world that suddenly feels very different.
